Full-time Consumer protection

at Consumer protection in London

Senior Associate – Consumer Policy
£40k-£60k • London

Consumer protection and raising public awareness of finance issues are two of our key objectives at the Financial Services Authority (FSA). With this in mind the Consumer Financial Education Body (CFEB) being established (subject to Royal Assent), will lead a national strategy designed to help people manage their personal finances and understand where to get help if they need it. Join us as part of our External Affairs and Consumer Policy team and you’ll play a key role in our future success.

Helping to shape our strategic direction means you’ll need to be our eyes and ears in the world of policy. As well as identifying opportunities related to financial services policy and emerging consumer issues, you’ll ensure we do everything within our power to enable people to manage their own financial affairs. This will involve making recommendations, both internally and to external organisations, and working closely with policy partners to implement these recommendations. Managing relationships with external stakeholders in the consumer movement, trade bodies and regulators, and mentoring junior members of the team will also be central to your role.

A highly analytical professional, your wide-ranging background in consumer protection and knowledge of associated bodies will have given you an impressive grasp of the intricacies of consumer finance and regulation. A combination of intellectual rigour, technical ability and strategic thinking are prerequisites. Proactive and enthusiastic, you’ll also bring excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate complex issues effectively.

As part of The Financial Services Bill 2009, we’re establishing an independent consumer financial education body to raise the profile of our financial capability work. It is likely that anyone performing a role related to our Financial Capability work will transfer to the new organisation when it is established.
